YouTube SEO optimization Process
As YouTube is the 2nd big search engine in the world after Google. It receives more than 30 million visitors per day. Some use it to promote their brand, others use it to show their talent, and others use it to earn money from it.
Opening a channel on YouTube is quite easy and there are many channels that are created on a daily basis, but not all of them make money from YouTube. Most of them rarely get views.
Well I’m a fan of western music. I used to learn music production as a hobby. Little by little, I started uploading tutorial videos on YouTube. But my videos barely got any views.
Actually, I was using the wrong tactics and I barely got any subscribers. But then, I researched online how to do YouTube SEO optimization to better rank videos.
Guess what, my videos started ranking on the first YouTube page. These are some examples.
But since my YouTube niche doesn’t have many audiences. Therefore, it was not so popular to have huge views. Anyway, I’m not that active right now since I started blogging.
But still, I knew the YouTube SEO factors that are essential to better rank the videos.
Video ranking alone would not help you succeed on YouTube. Your content must be amazing to make it stand out from the rest. Although I rated on the first page, my content was average.
Guess what happened?
Only 20% of my viewers became subscribers, which I think is pretty boring. Therefore, it is imperative to have amazing content along with impressive presentation for your videos.
So, guys finishing up. What I share here in this article are the things that I have learned that have worked for me and will work for you as well.
1) Find keywords for YouTube SEO optimization
The first important step is to find good keywords for your video. You can check out this article for the free YouTube keyword tool to search for the best keywords.
I have been using TubeBuddy to find great keywords. You can also do the same in Google’s keyword planner. But I found this easier, more accurate tool, which is made especially for YouTube and guess what, it’s free.
2) Create video:
Now I can’t help you make videos. But one thing I can do is give you valuable suggestions.
First of all, your video length should be more than 5 minutes because YouTube likes videos that are longer, and therefore more likely to rank better.
You must know some factors in which the YouTube algorithm works. That the factors are the following:
a) Video retention:
YouTube classifies videos that have a higher retention rate well. Here “video retention” means the average playing time of your video.
Try to get feedback on your video. Always ask your viewers to like, comment and subscribe to your channel.
It’s a way of telling YouTube that your video is very enjoyable among viewers. Because of this, YouTube’s algorithm will better rank your videos.
c) Subscribe after seeing:
YouTube also powers those videos that help gain new subscribers.
For example, if you get new subscribers through one of your videos, YouTube will rank that video better.
The same as above. If one of your videos is shared on social media, then the video is likely to rank better.
Videos rank well if viewers add them for later list and playlist. That’s why it creates good content so that it is more likely to be added to that playlist.
f) I like:
More likes will help you in the same way in the ranking. Always have a call to action (asking viewers to like, subscribe to share) at the beginning or end of the video.
So try to make a video considering all these factors so that you have more retention, comments, likes and shares.
3) Optimize YouTube Video SEO
This is the next step after you have created your video. Do the following while uploading your video to YouTube.
a) Name of the video file:
The name of the video file must be your keyword. In my case, the name of the video file will be “how to make homemade pizza.mp4”
Since YouTube cannot view videos. So renaming it is a way to tell the YouTube algorithm what your video is about.
b) Video title:
Same as above, put your keyword in your title. You can add some search queries or phrases in your title which tend to show videos on the first page of Google search. Below are the search query,
- What is it
- Funny videos
c) Video description:
While filling the description. It is important to describe your video in at least 100-250 words.
When describing your video, be sure to mention your keyword at least 3-4 times. One at the top, second in the middle, and third at the bottom.
If you’re posting a link, be sure to mention it at the top of its description. Also, sometimes a long description will also include your video in Google search. So don’t forget to describe your video well.
Include tags related to your videos in the tag section. You can search for tags on TubeBuddy which will eventually suggest some of the best tags. You can also refer labels from your competitors. I have mentioned a cheat method to find keywords from your competitor’s video. You can read it here in the tags section. Include at least 5 or more labels.
e) Video quality:
Always upload videos in HD quality, such as 720p or 1080p. I mean who wants to watch low quality videos. Do you prefer to watch movies in HD or in low quality?
f) Attractive miniature:
Always upload an attractive thumbnail for your videos to attract viewers.
Now the work is not yet completed. You must promote your video on social networks to start your initial views.
You can share your videos on the following social networking sites.
- Google More
- Yahoo Answers
Now while promoting on Quora and Yahoo responds. Find the questions related to your keyword and answer.
While answering questions related to your video, write a small preview / summary on the topic and end it with something like this.
